Endorsement for wholesale demand response
The National Electricity Market includes a wholesale demand response mechanism.
Demand response service providers need to register with the Australian Energy Market Operator. This allows them to aggregate two or more wholesale demand response units (WDRU).
AEMO must be satisfied that system security will not be materially affected before approving aggregation of WDRUs. Our endorsement is used to help AEMO with this assessment.
To apply
Our endorsement is required where a DRSP’s proposed aggregation would:
- Add one or more WDRUs to an aggregated dispatchable unit identifier.
- Include WDRUs at or behind a single transmission node with an aggregate maximum responsive component of 5 MW or greater.

We endeavour to provide our endorsement within 25 business days. Our assessment begins when we receive the required information and the fee is paid. An invoice for the fee will be issued after we receive your application.
