Brunswick and Brunswick East Area Upgrades

CitiPower is investing in new electricity infrastructure across Brunswick and Brunswick East to help maintain a safe, reliable and resilient power supply for the local community.

Project type:Network Project
Current stage:Underway
Project duration:2026 - 2029
CitiPower

These works are part of a broader program to modernise the electricity network, replace ageing assets and support future growth and energy demand in the area.

Works are expected to commence in 2026 and continue in stages through to 2029.

Project outcomes

As part of these upgrades, we’re installing new electricity infrastructure and retiring ageing equipment that has reached  the end of its service life.

These improvements will:

  • Improve network reliability and resilience
  • Support future electricity demand and growth
  • Reduce maintenance requirements on ageing assets
  • Strengthen the local electricity network for homes, businesses and essential services

Planned works

  • Trenching and civil works (2026 - 2027)
  • Sub-transmission network upgrades (2026 – 2027)
  • Cable testing (2026-2027)
  • Underground cable replacement (2027)
  • Switchboard and network equipment upgrades (2028-2029)

What to expect during works

During construction you may notice:

  • Traffic management, signage and traffic controllers in work areas
  • Temporary road occupancies and minor traffic delays
  • Temporary closure of some on-street parking spaces
  • Excavation works to install and connect underground electricity cables
  • Construction vehicles and work crews operating within the area
  • Temporary construction noise and dust

Electricity supply will generally remain available throughout construction. However, some customers may require planned outages to safely complete network connections. Where this is required, affected customers will receive advance notification.

Please note that work schedules may change due to weather conditions, site conditions or other factors outside of our control.

Frequently asked questions

If works are scheduled to impact access to your property, a member of our stakeholder engagement team will contact you directly to discuss arrangements and maintain access where possible.

Trenching involves excavating a narrow section of ground or roadway to install underground electricity cables and associated infrastructure.

You may experience temporary impacts such as traffic management, changed parking conditions, construction noise, dust and altered pedestrian access around work zones.

Most works will be completed while maintaining electricity supply. However, some planned outages may be required to safely connect new infrastructure. If your property is affected, CitiPower will provide advance notification.

Some construction noise and dust may occur during excavation and installation activities. Our crews will take reasonable measures to minimise these impacts wherever possible.
